NIKO Tahoe

Teen Avalanche Safety Course

For teenagers interested in accessing the more mountainous terrain, we are offering live virtual avalanche awareness courses tailored for this age group. These courses will supplement the Know Before You Go curriculum where we will be discussing best practices and etiquette.  This course would qualify teens to participate in one of our field days, at the Clair Tappaan Lodge property on Donner Summit, where we would identify snow stability, safe travel techniques, discuss beacons and other essential equipment, and application concepts learned in the classroom portion.

Custom Guided Experiences

We are excited to offer Custom Guided Adventures for you and your family or small group!

Together we will explore the beauty and grandeur of winter in the High Sierra. We provide seasoned guides and more than 15 years of local knowledge gained from leading groups and supporting youth development in the outdoors. Experience the healing power of nature while snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, backcountry skiing, or snowboarding and learning winter survival skills. We will investigate the natural and human history of the Truckee-Tahoe region, learn the wonders of snow science, and gain a solid foundation of backcountry skills and mountain sense.

Give your family or group the gift of winter adventures they’ll never forget!

Youth Snow Safety

For small groups of kiddos, 6-11 years old, we are offering after school and weekend small group in-person winter skills programs. These small group in-person outings are intended to educate youth on the correct actions to take should they ever find themselves lost in the mountains during the winter. These programs will include hands-on instruction on building snow shelters, discussions about Search and Rescue operations, and taking the correct actions to stay alive and be found. These programs will be largely focused on having fun in the snow with snowshoes, sledding, and cross country skiing.
