GMC's Favorite Classroom Is the Sierra
Calling all teachers!
How does learning outside of the classroom take shape for your students? If you ask them, what do they say?
While their replies are sure to vary from student to student, depending on extracurricular activities, friends, and curiosities, the answers will likely illuminate the paths by which they challenge themselves and seek out new information. Their replies are also likely to reflect their degree of connection with nature, which may be minimal.
For far too many students, the barriers to natural environments are numerous and hard to overcome in the absence of opportunity, encouragement, and support. The magnetic pull of media and screens can also be an obstacle. Our Sierra Experience programs are designed to scale the barriers and bridge these very gaps.
As we transition into the height of our programming season, our team of passionate scientists, researchers, naturalists, and world-class mountain guides is ready and excited to spark your students’ enthusiasm for learning with enriching projects, leading-edge adventures, wellness activities, and field science curricula. Helping youth connect with themselves, nature, community, and the learning process is at the core of what we do! We also support their networks in doing the same, so that their capacity in meeting the great need of our youth is also strengthened.
Students and staff from Sonoma Country Day School, Marin Montessori School and Verde Elementary from Richmond, CA were among our latest Sierra Experience adventures this spring, and other groups are on their way, with customized trips to support their specific interests and educational needs. We would love to collaborate with you in planning for your group this summer. Plus, it is not too early to begin planning a field trip for the fall. Together, we make learning fun, experiential, and personally relevant!
