The Need
February 2021 research from the National Institute of Health Care Management (NIHCM) shows the rates of mental illness are rising faster among 18- to 25-year-olds than the rest of the adult population, and are driving the overall increase in rates of mental illness in the U.S. Mental illness is increasingly common in young people and may persist throughout their lifetime, as 75% of all lifetime mental illness develops by age 24. Mental illness is underdiagnosed and undertreated, particularly among young people. Less than 50% of 12- to 25-year-olds who reported a major depressive episode within the previous year received treatment, as compared to 70% for people over the age of 26.
Mental illness is a risk factor for suicide, which increased among all young people between the ages of 10 and 24 between 2000 and 2017. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death in this age group. Youth substance use disorder is a high-profile public health concern, with at least 1-in-8 teenagers abusing an illicit substance in the last year. National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics (NCDAS) cites teenagers in California are 24.46% more likely to have used drugs in the last month than the average American teen. 314,000 or 10.37% of California 12- to 17-year-olds report using drugs in the last month. Our youth NEED HELP!
Our Solution
We address the needs of today’s youth by deepening their experience of wholeness, self-knowledge, and relational skills. With a wide array of leading edge modalities, we frontload early prevention by strengthening their ecosystem of internal and external relationships. This sparks the joy of self-discovery and empowerment for their path of well-being.
With present moment experiencing, youth learn how to toggle their awareness between mind, heart and body; inner and outer; and the personal with the transcendent, or “what is larger than themselves”. This resolves trauma and old emotions, heals the nervous system, and positions youth to re-author their self-stories. Well-being is our birthright. 4Roots wellness delivers the how.
