Raft Trip Fundraiser!
Saturday June 28th
All Donations are Matched!

Dear Friends,

I hope you are enjoying a fantastic Spring!

Our program partners at I.R.I.E Rafting are giving us a Benefit Day!  All proceeds from raft trips sold on Saturday June 28th, benefit our growing Wellness, Therapeutic Mentoring, and Adventure programs for at-risk youth in the Truckee, North Tahoe region. All funds will be Matched! Proceeds received for this raft trip and any additional donations this summer will be doubled thanks to a generous donor.

You can participate in one of two ways:

1.  Sign up yourself and your family and join us for a fantastic whitewater experience!  Raft the lower Truckee River from Boca reservoir to Floriston, a perfect trip with some exciting Class III rapids to cap it off. Two trips to choose from: 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:30pm-4:30pm.

2.  Call I.R.I.E. Rafting and purchase/sponsor a rafting spot, so we can fill that seat with a student from Sierra Continuation High School, or the Truckee Community School.

Cost is $69.00 for adults, $65.00 for youth 14 and under.

Book Online at
or Call IRIE Rafting at (530) 582-4900.

Local Programs are Growing

School Site Wellness Services - We are finishing a great year of delivering wellness programs for the students at Sierra Continuation High School and the Truckee Community School.  We provided a series of all school retreats, adventure outings, one-on-one interviews with students helping them identify and develop their Core Gifts, classes in mindfulness, impulse control, and self-care skills. With great success we began a weekly mindfullness and yoga-based program in resiliency and intention setting for Alder Creek Middle School special-needs students. We also provided monthly, adventure field trips advancing self-efficacy and pro-social skills.

Whole Hearts, Minds, and Bodies - is our innovative program in nature-based therapeutic mentoring for youth who are in treatment for mental health and behavioral issues.  We have rapidly grown from an experimental pilot in alternative treatment modalities, to a contracted partner of some of the largest agencies in Nevada and Placer County Systems of Care! Our client families are giving us rave reviews, and the growing need for adjunct mental health services requires us to continually grow our capacity.

More Schools coming up for Sierra Field Trips We've  had a busy spring with visiting schools and are gearing up for our busiest summer season ever. Our research project in Van Norden Meadow continues to develop with our partners at UC Davis Center for Watershed Sciences, and the Truckee Donner Land Trust. Our visiting students participate in advancing critical knowledge in how Sierra meadow and wetland habitats are impacted by a warming and drying climate, thus informing future restoration efforts. There is still room for more visiting schools! If you know of a teacher motivated to bring their students up to the Sierra for high quality field-science and mountain adventure programs... send them our way! We have scholarship funds to help.

From developing and delivering real-world, relevant field science and eco-literacy curriculum for urban students, to providing a much needed adjunct to the system of care for youth in mental health treatment - Gateway Mountain Center is working on the front lines of issues that matter for the future of our environment and our society.

We need your help! I'm writing today to ask you to please join us on the rafting day, sponsor a spot on the raft trip, or make a tax-deductible contribution to Gateway Mountain Center.

We are urge you to help make these transformational experiences accessible to the youth who really need them.

I sincerely thank you for your consideration. I hope you will join us in our mission to positively change the lives of youth,  and to increase eco-literacy in our world.

It matters.

YOU can make a difference today!
